Tyrrell's HVD Semillon 2017
* Across any 6 bottles of wine, when purchased in store.
The 2017 growing season was exceptional and has resulted in top-quality wines. Thanks to consistent rainfall in winter and spring, the vines had ample access to water. In addition, the warm temperatures in the New Year ensured that all of the fruit was perfectly ripe and in excellent condition upon harvest. Harvested by hand in the early morning, the fruit was gently crushed and pressed before undergoing a cooler fermentation process. Minimal time on yeast lees was followed by an early bottling to preserve the wine's freshness. No oak fermentation or maturation was involved.
The scent is dominated by sun-drenched honeysuckle, hints of green apple peel, a subtle hint of caper brine, and crushed shells. On the palate, the wine is gently swaying on the edge of maturation; it is still tight and smooth, but it is starting to suggest the rich texture and intricacy that will evolve in the next few years. A true wonder.
