In years when the growing season yields outstanding fruit quality and a particular vintage has excellent ageing potential, only First Growth is produced. The 2020 First Growth, made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the 'Abbey' vineyard, is classified as 'Excellent' by First Growth Langton's and highly acclaimed by both Australian and international critics. It underwent a 40-day closed-static fermentation in a 9T fermenter, with 12 days of initial fermentation followed by a final 28 days of topping and sealing. This extended maceration process helps to develop tannin structure and increase the wine's ageing potential. After time on the skins, the wine was pressed into 80% new oak barriques from renowned cooperages Seguin Moreau, D'Aquitaine, Louis Latour, and Francois Freres. It then matured in oak for 18 months, producing finely textured tannins and a tightly structured wine with the potential to improve with proper cellaring.
