Painted Wolf 'Lycaon' Old Vine Chenin Blanc

This sophisticated and nuanced wine reveals aromas of peach with subtle hints of saline earthiness. It offers a creamy, refined texture and a long, bone-dry finish.
The grapes come from two adjacent blocks of unirrigated 44-year-old vines located in the “horse shoe” area just above Wellington, growing in well-drained, yellow-brown Tukulu soil composed of decomposed granite. The vineyard is a certified heritage site under South Africa’s Old Vine Project, which protects the nation’s remaining old vineyards.
Gentle pressing produced about 550 litres of juice per tonne to ensure top quality. The wine was aged in a mix of French oak barrels—including one new tight-grain 500-litre barrel and two seasoned barrels—and tank, with slow fermentation enhancing its elegant texture. It will continue to develop complexity over the next 3 to 4 years in bottle.
