Jim Barry The McRae Wood Shiraz 2018
This Shiraz honours the vision of pioneer Clare Valley winemaker Jim Barry. In 1964 Jim purchased 70 acres of prime land from Duncan McRae Wood and planted his first vineyard with Shiraz. It was an inspired choice of both grape variety and location.
Darker than the night, black berries, black forest and dark spice, a tight line, coiled tension, the driver is black forest and spice throughout with integrated but youthful tannin line, long drive out the back, a wine built for aging.
The late Jim Barry was a pioneer of Australian table wine, graduating with the 17th diploma in winemaking in Australia. He went on to become the first qualified winemaker to work in the Clare Valley of South Australia and with his wife, Nancy, built a successful wine business, which has produced trophy-winning wines since its establishment in 1959. Today, the custodian of Jim Barry Wines is their second son Peter, who joined the family winery in 1977 and now works along side his own sons, Tom and Sam.
