Canalicchio di Sopra has been one of Montalcino's most trusted names since Primo Pacenti planted his first vines in 1962, and the Rosso di Montalcino 2020 is a beautiful expression of why. Drawing from the estate's northern Canalicchio and Montosoli parcels, where clay-rich soils laced with pebbles and minerals give the Sangiovese a distinctive aromatic intensity and silky depth, this is a wine with real character.
In the glass it opens with ripe cherries, a whisper of cedar, earthy Tuscan soil and a touch of vanilla from the Slavonian oak botti, all balanced by lively acidity and tannins that are firm but never harsh. It's a medium-bodied Italian red that drinks beautifully now, with a smooth and lingering semi-dry finish that makes it a natural match for a grass-fed steak, slow-braised lamb or anything with bold and savoury flavours.
