Pegasus Bay Prima Donna Pinot Noir 2016
* Across any 6 bottles of wine, when purchased in store.
If you look at NZ Pinot Noir leaderboard over the the last decade, and one name you'll consistently see in the top five is Pegasus Bay's superb Prima Donna. Beautifully detailed spiced cherry fruit, perfectly poised with great balance and a silky, supple texture across the palate, the 2015 is a lovely wine that manages to capture all that is good about the variety in Waipara.
Winemaker Note
On release the wine is a deep crimson shot with lingering hints of purple. It is redolent with suggestions of ripe red-berry fruits, wild cherries and blueberries. These intertwine with whiffs of barbequed meats, grilled mushrooms, wood-smoke, dark chocolate and vanilla pods. Although the entry is soft it seems
to rapidly expand in the mouth to become rich, powerful and muscular. In spite of this it retains refinement and poise with a long robe of velvety tannins, which flow through the palate and help draw out its lingering, spicy, tangy after-taste.
